The X-Class Mercedes Ute 2018

Mercedes Benz's first ute
In 2018, Mercedes-Benz will release its first ever ute, the X-Class, to be manufactured in Spain. While it's their first ute, the global automotive brand has been long-known for manufacturing luxury vehicles, commercial trucks, coaches and buses.
While specifications are yet to be fully confirmed, the five-seat, dual-cab ute is entering the increasingly popular mid-size ute market likely with two very aesthetically pleasing models:

  • The ‘Powerful Adventurer’ showcases the usual workhorse traits (and off-road capabilities) with big tyres 35 inches in diameter, 11.5 inches wide and flared arches standing at 1.9 metres tall. The interior shares the exterior’s Lemonax Metallic colour (think of the BMW M4 light olive metallic colour), black nappa leather and matte carbon elements.
  • The ‘Stylish Explorer’ is more a luxury family vehicle to compliment an urban lifestyle, which includes stylish 22-inch light alloy anthracite-finished (a variety of coal with the fewest impurities) wheels and low profile tyres. The interior includes both brown nubuck and a cool white nappa leather, and also polished alloy trim elements to finish off the luxury feel.
Engine varieties will likely include a 2.3 litre four-cylinder petrol, a 2.3 litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel (from a Nissan Navara) or a 3.0 litre V6 engine, coupled with both automatic and manual transmissions. The V6 will include Mercedes Benz’s 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive system to improve traction in slippery conditions.
Mercedes Benz is always at the forefront of technology and the X-Class will be no different. It will include driver assistance systems to ensure safety and comfort. Also, with connected technologies increasingly being incorporated into vehicles of late, the X-Class can be accessed remotely (from your smartphone, tablet or PC) via the on-board SIM card to check the fuel left and its location, amongst other capabilities.
